Welcome to our newsletter for practitioners that work with children and families in Leeds. This newsletter provides you with helpful information to support and improve your practice.
New bereavement training resource
We have launched a powerful new training resource aimed at helping professionals better understand and respond to grief and bereavement in their work.
The Professional Grief and Bereavement videos are a suite of 5 videos which raise awareness of the unique and personal nature of grief. Developed in response to recommendations from a Child Safeguarding Practice Review, the videos explore the impact of bereavement on children, adults, and families, and supports practitioners in navigating sensitive conversations with compassion and confidence.
Delivered by Zoe Hamilton Wynne, Training and Bereavement Manager at the National Bereavement Service, the videos offer evidence-based insights and practical guidance. Zoe brings extensive experience across sectors including the NHS, charities, and academia, and is known for her tailored, empathetic approach to bereavement education.
The videos are suitable for anyone working in settings where they may encounter individuals experiencing grief. It is not counselling training, but rather a tool to enhance professional curiosity, improve communication, and help practitioners manage emotional responses in a supportive and informed way.
Before accessing the webinar, participants should have completed the Introduction to Safeguarding Children and Young People training, either through their own organisation or via LSCP.
The Professional Grief and Bereavement videos can be accessed via the Training section on the website.
LSCP Annual Report 2024-25
The LSCP Annual Report covers the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, and is produced on behalf of the partnership by the Delegated Safeguarding Partners in Leeds.
The report begins by thanking all front-line practitioners and managers who work tirelessly to improve outcomes for children across Leeds. It is the commitment, dedication, and care that practitioners give to children and families on a daily basis, that keeps children safe.
Since writing the annual report, Leeds has once again received an outstanding OfSTED judgement which further reinforces the strength of our partnerships and the shared commitment across all agencies to improve outcomes for children across Leeds.
Key messages from the report include:
- Full implementation of the revised Government guidance, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), in good time and ahead of the required deadline
- Undertaken a self-assessment utilising a National Tool to evaluate the current position of the partnership, the impact of the work undertaken and identifying areas for further development
- Developed further opportunities for collaborative work with the Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board and the Safer Leeds Executive, including initiating more regular strategic planning across the three boards to commence in 2025-26
- Agreed the local action plan in response to the National Panel publication “I wanted them all to notice” concerning the need for all partnerships in the country to review and take steps where necessary to improve responses to concerns about intra-familial child sexual abuse
- The commitment to continually improving safeguarding practice in the city with continued work on the LSCP priorities:
o Domestic Abuse- children as victims
o Safeguarding through Family Help
o Safeguarding Teenagers- serious youth violence and exploitation
- Implementation of the National Reforms
- The significant work undertaken by the LSCP through its subgroup structure

Training for Trainers support session
For those of you who previously attended ‘Training the Trainer’ events, to enable you to deliver training in your own service, we are co-ordinating a programme of support sessions.
We think it’s important to give you the opportunity to touch base with us now and again, to make sure the training you’re offering is still up to date and relevant to your practice. At our first meeting in May this year, those trainers who were able to join the session felt that it would be useful to attend such an event every 6 months or so; with that in mind, we will be meeting again in December.
This will be an MS Teams based peer support session; 90 minutes to share your thoughts on delivering safeguarding training, working through challenges, and accessing support on any training related issues. We will also be able to use this time to share with you any updates to training materials and give you information on how you can access the most up to date version.
We’d love you to join us on 11 December, 13:30-15:00. To book your place register online.
LSCP training evaluation
Just a reminder to all those who have attended our Webinar training sessions over the past few months, we will shortly be getting in touch with some of you, with an invitation to be part of our follow up evaluation of those sessions. We’re really interested to understand how training can have an impact on outcomes for children. For every training session delivered, we will be making contact with 20% of delegates, to ask them to complete a very short questionnaire (only two questions) to help us understand how practice changes as a result of practitioners attending a training session. If you are selected as part of that 20%, we will be sending you an email link to that questionnaire.
By completing our evaluation form, you’re not just sharing your thoughts, you’re helping us understand what works well, what could be better, and how we can tailor future training to better meet your needs.
Your feedback is invaluable, and it only takes a few minutes to make a real difference. Look out for the email landing in your inbox.
