Safer Recruitment Training for Trainers

Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership is pleased to be able to offer access to a Safer Recruitment Training for Trainers course. This course is aimed at anyone working in any section of the children’s workforce in Leeds and will be delivered by Carolyn Eyre from the Safer Recruitment Consortium (SRC).

We are able to offer this 2-day training at the low cost of £100 for both days (this course is usually £1000 per person) which includes accreditation to deliver the training and access to the Safer Recruitment Consortiums materials to deliver the one-day course.

LSCP would only ask that those accessing the training make themselves available for up to one day per year to deliver the Safer Recruitment training on behalf of the LSCP in return for the low rate being offered.

Participants will acquire the skills needed to deliver one-day accredited Safer Recruitment training. By the end of the two-day course, participants will have learned how to deliver training which:
  • Identifies key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Considers policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
  • Enables participants to review their own organisation’s policies and practices with a view to making them safe
  • Explore options for delivery in their own organisations
Successful participants will be able to enrol on the SRC’s register of accredited Safer Recruitment Trainers, able to deliver Safer Recruitment training events to professionals.

The Safer Recruitment Training content includes:
  • Safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding
  • Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers
  • How abusers operate within organisations
  • Features of a safer recruitment process
  • Planning a safer recruitment process
  • Making the right decisions: interview and selection
  • Using criminal records information
  • Setting acceptable standards of behaviour
  • Maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance

The Safer Recruitment Consortium accreditation process requires that delegates are able to evidence experience in key areas before attending the Safer Recruitment Train the Trainer course. A delegate should have either a background in Child Protection, HR or school governance with some training delivery experience, or be an established trainer with experience of at least one of these key areas*. Please outline this on the application form.

This course is specially bought in and therefore sits outside the LSCP Charging Policy. All agencies will be charged for attendance at a flat fee of £100 which is non-refundable unless 5 working days’ notice is given.
