Managing relationships when sharing information sharing without consent

The aim of this briefing is to provide space for team reflection on the skills required when sharing sensitive information in challenging situations, whilst maintaining trust and engagement with families.

Briefing objectives

Working through this briefing will support teams to:

  • Identify the skills required to effectively and appropriately share information without first gaining consent
  • Reflect on how applying these skills can foster positive relationships with children and families

Team activities

  • As a group, consider situations where it would be appropriate to share information without consent
  • Now identify two or three people in your team who have shared information without consent, whilst maintaining a positive relationship with a family. In smaller groups, discuss these scenarios, and identify two key skills which that practitioner used.
  • Come back into your larger group, share and discuss feedback on those skills their importance when working with children and their families
