Are you new in post?

Congratulations on your new role!

This section of the website will provide you with an introduction to the LSCP and where to find useful information to support you in your new safeguarding role in Leeds.

Throughout this website and across Leeds, we use the term practitioner to describe anyone who works with children or young people, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity. As a practitioner, you play a vital part in identifying concerns, promoting children’s wellbeing, and taking timely action when something doesn’t feel right.

Before you do anything else sign up to the LSCP monthly newsletter to stay informed about updates and best practice.

Also consider joining the LSCP Practitioner Group.

Group members:

  • give feedback on the LSCP’s guidance and information
  • share their opinions on learning from reviews and LSCP messaging
  • are encouraged to make suggestions from a practitioner's point of view

You'll have experience from your previous role and a different perspective on the Leeds approach which would be valuable to the group. To join send an email to: LSCP.Info@leeds.gov.uk

Information for practitioners

You’ll find key information, guidance, and best practice to support your role under the Practitioner tab. As a starting point take a look at the Guidance and Protocols section for agreed principles and standards for working with children or young people in Leeds.

Find out about the LSCP

Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) leads and coordinates multi‑agency arrangements to protect children, ensuring all local organisations understand and fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities. It sets the strategic direction, culture, and priorities for safeguarding across Leeds and provides joint oversight of how well partners work together to keep children safe.

Within The Partnership tab you can find the LSCP's annual report and multi‑agency arrangements.

The Partnership

Keep your skills up to date with training

The LSCP provides a series of multi-agency safeguarding learning and development opportunities including core training, additional topic-based webinars, as well as events.

Book yourself on to the Introduction to Safeguarding Children training. This is seen as a minimum requirement for all people working within settings which work with or have regular contact with children and young people.

Our learning offer changes each quarter with webinars on safeguarding subjects delivered by experts from across the partnership. Keep checking back to the website and book yourself on any relevant training to ensure that you're keeping your skills and awareness up to date.

Third Sector Safeguarding Group

If your role is within the Third Sector ( eg; Charity, voluntary, community group, faith or sports sectors) join our Third Sector Safeguarding Group.

Safeguarding can be complex, and organisations often face similar challenges. The group provides a space to share practical ideas, learning, resources, and solutions, helping organisations improve their own policies and practice.

The group acts as a bridge between the sector and the LSCP through:

  • sharing messages, updates, and expectations from the LSCP across the third sector
  • It brings back the experiences and voices of third sector organisations, and importantly, the children and young people they support, to inform LSCP priorities and decision-making

The group meets quarterly. Come along to our next meeting.
